International Women’s Day (March 8) celebrates womanhood, their social, economic, cultural, political achievements and significant contributions of women to society. It is an event held around the world to commemorate the struggle for women’s rights and emphasizing the importance of gender equality.
Women have come a long way in their struggle for equality. This year, the theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March, 2018 by the United Nations, is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.
International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice. Indeed, there is a very strong and growing global movement of advocacy, activism and support surrounding gender parity and sexism inspired by #MeToo and #TimesUp and other movements protesting against sexual harassment and assault, discrimination and violence against women and girls.
The campaign theme for IWD 2018 is #PressforProgress.
How will you #PressforProgress in 2018?
I will #PressforProgress and:
- Maintain a gender parity mindset.
- Challenge stereotypes and bias.
- Forge positive visibility of women.
- Influence others’ beliefs / actions.
- Celebrate women’s achievements.
May the glory and glamour of womanhood be abundantly bestowed upon you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the things you do.
Happy International Women’s Day 2018!
“A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman. But the search to find that voice can be remarkably difficult. It’s complicated by the fact that in most nations women receive substantially less education than men.” – Melinda Gates
